Tibor and Sarlota Weiss met during the Holocaust while hiding in a closet in rural Slovakia. Upon liberation they got married, started a family and then had to escape communism by moving to Israel. They were happy to have each other, but deeply saddened that almost all of their family members had not survived. In 1947 there son was born and in 1949 they were told to leave Czechoslovakia or face a very rough future under communism. They spent the next three years in Israel as Tibor helped the Israeli Defense Force build and rebuild airplanes for military use. Then Sarlota brought the family to the United States so she could be near her only surviving sister (out of eight children).
