The Embalmer

But what he doesn’t realize is that he’s about to come face to face with a serial killer who embalms his victims alive. The Hatta McFarlane & Sprout Cozy Mystery Series

Hatta Mcfarlane & her pet Yorkie, Sprout, take on an evil force that is dead set on acquiring ranch land in the beautiful Salmon, Idaho area to create a resort for their wealthy friends & political allies. Every time the evil group noses around someone gets murdered.

The team has the support of Grumpy but supportive Sheriff, Earl Hobbs, and the community at large, especially the leading women who make sure Hatta eats right (mostly sugary pastries) while investigating. Cade Weston, a local handsome rancher provides moral support and is very protective, which comes in handy when evil men decide Hatta is a liability and would like to get rid of her.

A sample review from for book one of the series:

I loved this book! The story captivated me from the beginning to the end. Hatta is living in California when she learns she inherited a flower shop and home from her grandmother in Salmon, Idaho. The inheritance comes with a stipulation: she must live there and run the shop for 90 days. She is barely settled in when the community’s most hated and feared man is killed and some are looking at her suspiciously. Her grandmother’s spirit is there to help and guide Hatta while letting her find her own way.

The characters and atmosphere are what makes this book really special. I finished the last sentence with a feeling of warmth and love and acceptance from the book.

Thanks to Lily Briar for allowing me to read this ARC.

Cozy down with this series and you won’t be disappointed.

Before the Devil Knows

Sometimes it’s not the devil you know…

When the disfigured body of a missing teenager is found in an unmarked grave in northern Maine, FBI agent Gus Wheeler and his partner arrive to investigate. They discover a second grave, but these remains are so badly burned, identification proves difficult. Yet the two bodies have something strange in common: a large lead cross laid upon each chest.

The locals are uncooperative, and the rural law enforcement is two steps behind. Enlisting help from a theology and biblical studies expert, they discover the murders are lifted straight from ancient scripture and the burials consistent with an archaic religious practice. Connecting the victims to a specific church adhering to a strict doctrine of the Old Testament creates more confusion than clarity.

As the investigation widens, the agents face threats and suspicion. Then someone inside the church begins leaving them clues, but are they friend or foe? With time running out, Gus must determine if their secret guide is leading them toward the answers or deeper into an underworld of twisted dogma and ancient rituals. $0.99 on Kindle.

Death on a Dinner Cruise

Death on a Dinner Cruise
The Compass Rose B&B has survived three generations of Delaney women, hurricanes, and sixty-seven batches of Gran Rose’s experimental scones. A dead travel blogger on a sunset cruise might be what finally breaks it.

When Marina “Rina” Delaney inherited the Compass Rose, she got a Victorian porch, a scone-stealing seagull named Gerald, and a cat who answers to no one. What she didn’t expect was a boatful of suspects, a murder investigation, and an exposé that threatens to sink her grandmother’s legacy faster than a nor’easter.

Travel blogger Trevor Bliss checked out of room seven with a smirk and a secret. Hours later, he’s found dead on Captain Derry’s sunset cruise — and the Compass Rose B&B is front and center of the story he never got to publish.

Now, with ChowderFest in full swing, she’s got cancelations flooding in, and a handsome detective telling her in no uncertain terms to stay out of it, Rina does what any self-respecting innkeeper would do: she asks a lot of pointed questions, takes very good notes, and keeps one eye on Gerald — who has a knack for causing chaos.

In Beacon Harbor, everyone has a motive, no one has a clean alibi, and some secrets are buried deeper than the harbor itself. $4.99 on Kindle.

Free: Desolation Run

Desolation Run
Three escaped convicts and a runaway girl search for a hidden fortune in stolen military payroll, while being pursued by a nationwide police manhunt, an enraged ex-husband, and a psychotic prison investigator bent on revenge… 70-something Oreny “Big” Johnson has a problem. Actually, he has two. Or maybe three. The first is that he’ll be dead from cancer, less than a year, which doesn’t particularly concern him: “The things I’ve been through, dying is just one more page in a long bad book.” But spending his last living days, taking his last living breath, behind steel bars does.

That’s the second problem: Inmate #78903 in the notorious level-four Washington State prison known as Horseneck Bay. Then there’s the money. Two million dollars of stolen military payroll, supposedly buried in some remote and mysterious south-Texas mountain range called Los Despoblados, or The Uninhabited, which sounds to Oreny like one of those places his Mama Maybell always told him to avoid. But he’ll worry about that later. He has to get there first. Problem number three.

That’s when he brings those two smoldering dynamite sticks he’s attached himself to—his Luke-boy and Jaime—on board to help his tired old body break out of Horseneck and go dig up that money and then hightail it across the border into Mexico. And when they do break out, and Luke decides to bring his girlfriend Lauren along, and her enraged ex comes after them, and then the manhunt starts multiplying faster around them than those cancer cells inside him, Oreny still thinks he can control them. The problems, that is. At least, until Cade arrives.

Cade, the prison investigator Oreny knows is dangerous and unpredictable as a six-foot-two wolverine on eight gallons of adrenalin gone bad. And who won’t stop until he catches them and does to them what Cade does best. Cade, Oreny knows better than anything else, is their biggest problem of all…”Simultaneously brutal, bloody and beatific, this is crime fiction done right. A relentlessly paced, unpredictable page-turner powered by well-developed characters.” Kirkus Reviews Free on Kindle.
